# 2.2 Two economies, sold in isolation

That gap exists because football has historically monetized fandom through two separate economies: the attention economy and the product economy. Each captures a share of the fan relationship, but neither understands the fan as a continuous identity whose value builds over time.

The attention economy sells exposure. It prices impressions, reach, and share of voice, rewarding volume over depth. The incentive is to produce more content, creating a stream of media designed to harvest attention and sell it to advertisers who often don’t know whose attention they’re buying.

The product economy sells repeat purchases, namely subscriptions, merchandise, and tickets. It rewards scarcity and conversion. The incentive is to identify the fans most willing to pay, restrict access to scarce products, and push them toward higher-value transactions.

Both economies optimise for numbers detached from the person behind them. One counts attention; the other counts transactions. Neither captures the context that distinguishes one fan from another – who they are, how they participate, and the value of their contributions.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.onefootballclub.com/2-the-end-of-fragmented-fan-value/2.2-two-economies-sold-in-isolation.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
