A fan’s interests were reconstructed from clicks, dwell time, and browsing behavior – often creating a profile of the fan without any direct relationship with the fan. The Fandom Economy starts with a different premise: the relationship between a fan, club, or platform should be intentionally entered into. In the Fandom Economy, consent isn’t a legal formality. Instead, it builds the basis of the relationship itself. This matters commercially because consented data is more valuable than inferred data. While inferred data is often low-resolution and temporary, consented participation is more high-resolution and durable – a direct signal of what a fan chooses to support, share, and return to over time. For fans, this creates transparency and control. For clubs and brands, it creates a clearer, more trusted basis for engagement.
